Thank goodness I have never been through anything this extreme but I have had someone exaggerate my flaws to get empathy from an entire community and justify her own infidelity. When someone exploits your flaws, that you are aware of and working on, to make you feel guilty and responsible for everything bad in the relationship, it causes irreparable damage to one's mental and emotional well being. I was never able to get close to anyone again.
