Big Think Interview with Mike Gravel

I like the idea of being registered to vote for life. I would like that to apply to drivers licenses also. I also like the idea of people being the fourth branch of government and being empowered to write laws also. A young man asked how that could work because most people are too busy to dig that deep into the issues. The solution for that is to make every bill be a single issue bill. Meaning anything written into the bill must be related directly to the topic of the bill and as Mike Gravel said, limit how many pages a bill can be written on. We now have the ability to make secure web sites like our Social Security or our banks. So we create a nationwide secure voters website. Not only will we vote from  the convenience of our homes or any location we are at, but the website will generate a unique number that will be printed on your receipt which you would then mail in, to be hand counted. That secures the vote. Now how do we educate the people on the issues? We allow people to create their own videos presenting their opinions about the bill. Let the people up vote the videos that they like until we have a small group that represent the popular arguments. Then you have three final debates by the best thinkers/speakers on the topic. To make sure that the people are not being unduly influenced by big money, every speaker must reveal all of their major donors and these donors names would be displayed at the bottom of the screen while they speak in the debates. This would do more to evolve our country than anything else I can think of.
